Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 20, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how FixMyTablet.net (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects information about visitors to our website (fixmytablet.net). We believe privacy policies should be readable, not full of legalese, so we’ve written this in plain English wherever possible. If anything is unclear, email us at contact@fixmytablet.net and we’ll clarify.

Summary (the short version)

  • We run a website that publishes tablet troubleshooting guides and reviews.
  • We use Google Analytics to understand which articles are useful and which aren’t.
  • We display affiliate links (mainly Amazon) and may display ads. When you click an affiliate link or an ad, the destination site may set tracking cookies.
  • We use a cookie consent banner so you can choose what to accept.
  • We don’t sell your personal data. We don’t build profiles on you. We don’t have user accounts or newsletters at this time.

If you want detail, read on. Otherwise that’s the substance.

Who we are

Website: fixmytablet.net Contact email: contact@fixmytablet.net Purpose: FixMyTablet.net is an independent publication providing troubleshooting guides, reviews, and buying advice for budget Android tablets.

We are not a legal entity separately incorporated at this time; the site is operated as an independent online publication.

What information we collect

1. Information you give us directly

When you contact us via email or through a contact form, we collect whatever you send us: your name (if you provide it), your email address, and the content of your message. We use this only to reply to you.

We do not currently operate user accounts, newsletters, or comment systems that would collect additional personal information.

2. Information collected automatically

When you visit our site, the following is collected automatically:

Server logs. Our web host records standard technical information: your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps. This is standard for any website and is used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention. Logs are typically retained for 30-90 days depending on our hosting provider’s policies.

Cookies and similar technologies. See the dedicated Cookies section below.

Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate site usage. GA4 collects anonymized usage data including pages visited, session duration, device type, approximate geographic location (country/region, not street address), and referral sources.

3. Information from third parties

Advertising and affiliate networks. When you click an advertisement or affiliate link on our site, the destination platform (Amazon, Google AdSense, etc.) may receive information about the referral and set its own cookies. That data is governed by the destination’s privacy policy, not ours. We describe this in more detail below.

How we use this information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To operate the website (server logs, security, debugging)
  • To respond to your inquiries (email correspondence)
  • To understand audience behavior (analytics) so we can decide what content to prioritize
  • To earn affiliate commissions that fund the site (affiliate link tracking)
  • To display relevant advertising (ad networks)

We do not use your information:

  • To build individual user profiles
  • To send marketing emails (we don’t have a mailing list)
  • To sell or rent to third parties
  • For any purpose not described in this policy

Cookies

Our site uses cookies — small text files stored on your device by your browser. We use cookies for the following purposes:

Functional cookies (strictly necessary)

These make the site work correctly. Examples: session cookies, security cookies, consent preference storage. These are always active because the site can’t function without them.

Statistics cookies (analytics)

Google Analytics 4 uses cookies to track aggregate site usage. We receive only anonymized, aggregated data — not individual user profiles. You can opt out of these cookies via our consent banner.

Marketing cookies (advertising and affiliate tracking)

  • Amazon affiliate cookies — when you click a product link to Amazon, a tracking cookie is set (usually for 24 hours) that credits us with any purchase you make during that window. The cookie is set by Amazon, not by us.
  • Advertising network cookies — if and when we display ads via Google AdSense or similar networks, those networks may set cookies to serve relevant ads and measure their effectiveness.

You can opt out of marketing cookies via our consent banner. Opting out does not remove ads from the site, but it may make the ads less relevant.

Managing your cookie preferences

Our cookie consent banner lets you accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or customize per category. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking “Manage Consent” in the site footer or in the cookie banner when it reappears.

You can also disable or clear cookies directly through your browser settings. Each browser has slightly different controls — search for “manage cookies [your browser name]” for instructions.

Google Analytics specifically

We use Google Analytics 4. We have configured it with these privacy-protecting settings:

  • IP anonymization is enabled — your full IP address is never stored
  • Data retention is set to the minimum (typically 2 months for event-level data, 14 months for user-level data)
  • No advertising features are enabled (we don’t use GA4 for advertising remarketing)
  • Google Consent Mode v2 is implemented, meaning if you decline analytics in our consent banner, GA4 does not set tracking cookies

For details on how Google processes the data collected via Analytics, see Google’s Privacy Policy. You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Affiliate links and advertising

Amazon Associates

FixMyTablet.net is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

When you click an Amazon link on our site and make a qualifying purchase, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This commission funds the site.

What data is shared? When you click an Amazon link, Amazon receives the referral information (our affiliate ID, the timestamp, and the source URL on our site). Amazon may also set cookies on your device to track any purchase made within the affiliate cookie window (usually 24 hours). Any data Amazon collects is governed by Amazon’s own privacy policy, not ours.

Other affiliate programs

We may link to other retailers (Walmart, Best Buy, Lenovo, etc.) through their affiliate programs. The same mechanism applies: a click passes referral data to the destination retailer, which may set its own cookies.

Display advertising

At the time of writing, we may display ads from Google AdSense or similar networks on some pages. Ad networks use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Serve ads they believe are relevant to you
  • Measure the effectiveness of those ads (impressions, clicks)
  • Limit how many times you see the same ad

For Google-served ads, see Google’s Privacy & Terms page. Google uses a cookie called the “DoubleClick cookie” (also known as the IDE cookie) to serve interest-based ads. You can opt out via Google’s Ads Settings.

Users in the EU have the right to object to interest-based advertising. You can exercise this via our cookie consent banner (decline marketing cookies) or via the respective ad network’s opt-out controls.

AAWP plugin (Amazon product boxes)

We use the AAWP plugin (Amazon Affiliate WordPress Plugin) to display product information from Amazon in an easy-to-read format. When these product boxes display images and prices, they’re fetched from the Amazon Product Advertising API. The plugin itself does not set additional tracking cookies on your browser — it renders data server-side. However, clicking a link inside an AAWP box takes you to Amazon and triggers the Amazon affiliate tracking described above.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have various rights regarding your personal data.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or Switzerland (GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”), subject to legal retention obligations
  • Restrict or object to our processing of your data
  • Port your data to another service
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@fixmytablet.net with your request. We respond within 30 days.

Our legal basis for processing:

  • Consent (for marketing and analytics cookies)
  • Legitimate interests (for functional cookies, server logs, and responding to your inquiries)

If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to:

  • Know what categories of personal information we collect
  • Access the specific pieces of personal information we hold
  • Delete your personal information
  • Opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your rights

To be clear: we do not “sell” your personal information as defined under CCPA. Some third-party trackers on our site (ad networks, analytics) may constitute “sharing” under the expanded CPRA definition — you can opt out of these via our consent banner.

To exercise CCPA rights, email contact@fixmytablet.net.

Other jurisdictions

If you’re in another jurisdiction with data protection laws (Brazil LGPD, Canada PIPEDA, Australia Privacy Act, etc.), similar rights likely apply. Email us to exercise them.

Data retention

  • Server logs: 30-90 days (depending on hosting provider)
  • Google Analytics data: 2-14 months (minimum retention settings in GA4)
  • Email correspondence: retained as long as needed to address your inquiry, typically up to 2 years, then deleted
  • Cookie consent records: 12 months, so we know which version of consent you gave
  • Affiliate click data: held by the affiliate network (Amazon etc.), not by us

We don’t retain data longer than we need to. If you’d like us to delete data associated with your email specifically, email us.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect:

  • Our site is served over HTTPS (SSL/TLS encryption)
  • Our hosting provider implements standard security practices (firewall, malware scanning, secure backups)
  • We apply WordPress security updates promptly
  • We use a limited number of trusted third-party services (see list above)

No online service is 100% secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we’ll notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by law.

Children’s privacy

FixMyTablet.net is not directed at children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us, contact us at contact@fixmytablet.net and we’ll delete it promptly.

This is particularly relevant because our content often discusses children’s tablets (Fire Kids, Amazon Kids mode). While we discuss these topics, the content is written for parents, not for children directly.

International data transfers

If you’re outside the United States, please note that some of the services we use (Google Analytics, Amazon, etc.) are based in the US and data may be transferred there. These transfers are covered by:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, where applicable
  • Adequacy decisions where applicable
  • The privacy frameworks of the respective services

You have the right to request more information about these transfers by contacting us.

Third-party links

Our site contains links to third-party websites (manufacturer support pages, news sources, retailer pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party sites. When you click an external link, the destination site’s privacy policy governs how your data is handled there.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be announced via a notice at the top of this page for at least 30 days. The “Last updated” date at the top of this document always reflects the current version.

If a change materially affects your privacy rights, we’ll seek your renewed consent where required by law.
