Lenovo Tablet Stuck on Lenovo Logo or Boot Loop? 7 Fixes (2026)

Your Lenovo tablet powers on, shows the Lenovo logo (or “Powered by Android”)… and never gets any further. Or it reaches the logo, goes black and starts again, in a loop. This happens across the whole range — Tab M8, M10, M11, P11, Tab Plus, Idea Tab — and in most cases it’s a software hang you can fix at home.

Work through the fixes below in order. Only the last two erase your data.

Before you start: have your Google account ready

If you end up doing a factory reset (Fix 6 or 7), Android’s Factory Reset Protection will ask for the Google account that was last synced on the tablet before you can use it again. Make sure you know that account’s email and password now. Google advises waiting 24 hours after changing the password before resetting a device (Google’s explanation).

Fix 1: Force a shutdown, then start it again

Lenovo’s user guides describe a forced shutdown that works even when the screen is frozen:

  1. Press and hold Power + Volume Down together.
  2. Keep holding for about 8 seconds (Tab M11, Idea Tab Pro) — up to about 12 seconds on some models such as the Tab P11 5G — until the tablet turns off.
  3. Wait 10 seconds, then press Power to start it.

Give it up to 5 minutes on the logo, especially if it was in the middle of a system update.

Fix 2: Charge it for 30 minutes

A battery that’s almost empty can’t sustain the start-up and causes exactly this kind of loop. Plug the tablet into a wall charger with a known-good USB-C cable for at least 30 minutes before trying Fix 1 again. If nothing happens even on the charger, our Lenovo tablet won’t turn on guide covers the next steps.

Fix 3: Remove the microSD card and unplug accessories

Take out the microSD card, remove any keyboard cover or pen, and unplug USB devices. A corrupted card can stall the boot. Force a shutdown and try again. If the tablet now starts, back up the card on a computer and reformat it.

Fix 4: Stuck in “FFBM” mode?

If the screen shows FFBM (often in small text) instead of a normal logo, the tablet has started in a factory test / diagnostic mode rather than normal Android. It’s usually triggered by pressing the wrong button combination during start-up. To leave it:

  1. Hold Power (or Power + Volume Down) until the tablet turns off completely.
  2. Start it again pressing only Power — don’t touch the volume buttons.
  3. If it keeps returning to FFBM, go to Fix 6 or 7.

Fix 5: Wait out an interrupted update

If the loop started right after a system update (or the battery died during one), the tablet may be trying to finish installing. Leave it on the charger, untouched, for 30 minutes. If it’s still looping after that, move on.

Fix 6: Factory reset from recovery mode

This erases everything on the tablet. Use it when the tablet never gets past the logo. The key combination isn’t the same on every Lenovo model, so try these in order, starting with the tablet turned off:

  • Power + Volume Up: hold both, release when the Lenovo logo appears, and wait for the recovery menu. This works on most current Tab models (details in our Lenovo factory reset guide).
  • Volume Up + Volume Down + Power together: release Power when the tablet vibrates and the logo appears, keep holding the volume buttons. This is the method Lenovo-made tablets like the NOOK 9″ use.
  • Power + Volume Down, same method.

If you see a robot with “No command”, press and hold Power, then tap Volume Up once to show the menu. In the menu, use the volume buttons to move and Power to select:

  1. Wipe data/factory reset → confirm.
  2. Reboot system now (on some models: Reboot device now).

Then set up the tablet and sign in with the Google account mentioned at the top. If you’ve also forgotten the screen lock, see Lenovo tablet PIN bypass.

Fix 7: Reinstall the software with Lenovo’s Software Fix tool

If even a factory reset doesn’t stop the loop, the system software itself may be damaged. Lenovo provides a free Windows program, Rescue and Smart Assistant (Lenovo calls the feature “Software Fix”), that downloads the official firmware for your exact model and reinstalls it over USB.

  • You need a Windows PC and a USB cable that carries data (not a charge-only cable).
  • Download it only from Lenovo: the Software Fix article and download page.
  • The program guides you through putting the tablet into the right mode. Follow its on-screen instructions exactly and don’t unplug the cable during the process.
  • Like a factory reset, this erases the tablet, and the Google account check still applies afterwards.

When it’s hardware

If Software Fix can’t detect the tablet, or the loop continues after a full reinstall, the problem is almost certainly hardware — battery, storage chip or main board. Check your warranty on Lenovo’s support site using the serial number on the back or on the box. Out of warranty, repair costs on a budget tablet usually approach the price of a new one; if you’re replacing it, the Lenovo Tab M11 is the current budget model, and we compare alternatives in best budget tablets under $100.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a forced shutdown delete my data?

No. Fixes 1–5 don’t erase anything. Only the factory reset (Fix 6) and the Software Fix reinstall (Fix 7) wipe the tablet.

My Lenovo tablet is stuck on “Powered by Android”. Same problem?

Yes — it’s the same stage of the boot. The same fixes apply.

What happens if I don’t know the Google account after a reset?

The tablet can’t be set up until you sign in with that account. Use Google’s account recovery to reset the password first, or contact Lenovo support with proof of purchase.

Do these steps work on other budget Android tablets?

Mostly, yes — the button combinations differ. See our guides for Onn tablets, BLU and RCA, or the all-brand budget tablet reset hub.
